Youth Beauty Radiance FAQs
ABOUT TALLOW SKINCARE
What is tallow and why would I use it on my skin?
Tallow is rendered fat from grass-fed cattle. It’s been used in skincare for thousands of years because its fatty acid profile closely mirrors human sebum (the oil your skin naturally produces). This means your skin recognizes tallow and can actually use it, rather than just sitting on top like many synthetic ingredients. Tallow is rich in naturally occurring vitamins A, D, E, and K, which support skin’s appearance and comfort.
Does tallow smell like beef?
No. Properly rendered, high-quality grass-fed tallow has very little scent. Our Tallow Balm has a natural aroma that comes from the botanical essential oils in it (for example: Blue Lotus Essential Oil, Hawaiian Sandalwood Essential Oil, Chamomile Essential Oil, Myrrh Essential Oil, Lavender Essential Oil, Frankincense Essential Oil, Copaiba Balsam Essential Oil and Cedarwood Essential Oil.)
Why grass-fed? Does it really make a difference?
Yes, significantly. Grass-fed tallow contains 3-5x more vitamin A, 2-4x more vitamin E, higher vitamin K2, and better omega-3 fatty acid ratios compared to grain-fed tallow. Beyond nutrition, grass-fed supports better animal welfare and regenerative agriculture practices.
Is this just a trend or does tallow actually work?
Tallow has been used in skincare for thousands of years across cultures worldwide. Modern science now confirms why it works: its biocompatibility with human skin. The fatty acids in tallow closely match those in human sebum, making it highly compatible with your skin’s natural function.
PRODUCT QUESTIONS
What's the difference between Tallow Balm and Tallow Lotion?
Our Tallow Balm and Tallow Lotion are both built on grass-fed tallow, but they serve different needs:
TALLOW BALM:
– Rich, concentrated balm texture
– 12 ingredients including 11 botanical oils
– Absorbs in 1-2 minutes
– For intensive moisture, multi-use applications, face and full body.
– Glass jar, 4 oz
TALLOW LOTION:
– Lightweight, fast-absorbing lotion
– 6 ingredients (minimal formula)
– For daily use, face and full body
– Pump bottle, 8 oz
Many customers use both – lotion in the morning for quick absorption, balm at night for deeper nourishment, but both can be used at any time of the day or night, as often as desired.
Can I use these products on my face AND body?
Absolutely! Both products are designed to be multi-functional. The balm works beautifully on face, lips, hands, cuticles, elbows, heels – anywhere you want to moisturize. Our Tallow Balm has many benefits and healing properties for the skin. It contains 11 botanical oils that provide amazing restorative benefits for the skin.
The lotion is also perfect for face, hands, arms, legs, and full body as well. This multi-use nature is one of the key benefits.
If you are going to use both products, you can test and see what sequence works best for you, but most people like to use the lotion first, and the balm second. But you can decide for yourself. They absolutely complement each other.
How long will one product last?
It depends on how often you use it, and how much you use:
TALLOW BALM (4 oz):
– Face only, daily: 2-4 months
– Face, hands, and occasional spot use: 1-2 months
– Full body use daily: 3-4 weeks
TALLOW LOTION (8 oz):
– Face only, daily: 3-4 months
– Face + hands, daily: 2-3 months
– Full body, daily: 3-4 weeks
Because the formulas are concentrated, a little goes a long way.
Do these products have SPF?
No, neither product contains SPF. They are moisturizers, not sunscreens. Apply your separate SPF product after your balm or lotion have absorbed (wait about 1-2 minutes).
Can I wear makeup over these products?
Yes! The Tallow Lotion is especially great under makeup because it absorbs more quickly than the balm, creating a smooth base. The Tallow Balm can also be used under makeup if you give it 1-2 minutes to fully absorb.
INGREDIENTS & SOURCING
Where does your tallow come from?
Our tallow comes exclusively from grass-fed, pasture-raised cattle. We prioritize sourcing from farms that practice regenerative agriculture and ethical animal welfare standards.
What does "grass-fed" actually mean?
Grass-fed means the cattle are raised on pasture eating their natural diet of grass, not grain. Grass-finished means they ate grass their entire lives, including the finishing period before processing. Our tallow is both grass-fed and grass-finished.
Are the cattle given hormones or antibiotics?
No. Our grass-fed cattle are raised without added hormones or routine antibiotics.
Why does the Tallow Balm have so many more ingredients than the Lotion?
The balm includes 11 botanical essential oils that contribute to its rich texture, subtle scent, and traditional skincare properties. Each oil serves a purpose, many of which have been used in ancestral skincare for centuries.
The lotion has a simpler formula because it includes water, which requires fewer botanicals and a natural preservative. The minimal ingredient list makes it ideal for those who prefer ultra-simple formulations or have sensitivities to essential oils.
Why does the Lotion need a preservative but the Balm doesn't?
The Tallow Balm is 100% oil-based (no water), so it doesn’t support bacterial growth and doesn’t need preservation. The Tallow Lotion contains water, which requires preservation to remain safe and stable. We use a naturally-derived preservative made from fermented radish root, instead of synthetic preservatives like parabens or other toxic chemicals.
Do your products contain any synthetic ingredients?
No. Both products are free from:
– Synthetic fragrances
– Artificial colors or dyes
– Parabens
– Phthalates
– Sulfates
– Mineral oil or petroleum
– Silicones
– Harmful toxic chemicals
The Lotion contains Emulsifying Wax NF (plant-derived) and a natural preservative made from radish root ferment, to create a stable, safe lotion texture.
What are all the ingredients in each product?
TALLOW BALM (12 ingredients):
100% Grass Fed Beef Tallow, Ricinus Communis (Castor Oil), Nigella Sativa Seed Oil (Virgin Black Cumin Seed Oil)*, Emu Oil, Nymphaea Caerulea (Blue Lotus Essential Oil), Santalum Paniculatum (Hawaiian Sandalwood Essential Oil), Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Oil (Chamomile Essential Oil)*, Commiphora Myrrha Oil (Myrrh Essential Oil), Lavandula Angustifolia Oil (Lavender Essential Oil)*, Boswellia Serrata (Frankincense Essential Oil)*, Copaifera Officinalis (Copaiba Balsam Essential Oil)*, Cedrus Atlantica (Cedarwood Essential Oil)*. *Organic Ingredient
TALLOW LOTION (6 ingredients):
Aqua (Water), Tallow, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Lactobacillus Ferment, Lactobacillus and Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract, Stearic Acid, Cetearyl Alcohol, Polysorbate 60
Are your products organic?
Our tallow comes from grass-fed cattle (not certified organic, as this certification is complex for animal products). Many of our botanical oils are organic, though not all are certified organic. We prioritize quality sourcing over certifications, focusing on grass-fed, sustainably raised animals and high-quality botanical ingredients.
HOW TO USE
How much product should I use?
It really depends on how much you find that you need, and where on the body you use it, but here is a general idea and starting point:
TALLOW BALM:
– Face & neck: Pea-sized amount
– Hands: Dime-sized amount
– Lips, cuticles, dry spots: Tiny dab
TALLOW LOTION:
– Face & neck: 1-3 pumps
– Both hands: 1-2 pumps
– Arms (both): 2-3 pumps
– Legs (both): 4-5 pumps
A little goes a long way with both products because they’re concentrated.
When should I apply these products?
Both products can be used as often as desired, but here is a helpful suggestion:
MORNING:
You can use either product. The Tallow Lotion is especially great under makeup because it absorbs more quickly than the balm, creating a smooth base. The Tallow Balm can also be used under makeup if you give it 1-2 minutes to fully absorb. Apply to damp skin after cleansing or rinsing face with water.
EVENING:
Again, you can use either product – Tallow Balm for richer overnight nourishment, or Tallow Lotion if you prefer lighter textures. Apply after cleansing. Remember, the Tallow Balm has many amazing skin loving essential oils that really work.
THROUGHOUT THE DAY:
Both products work great for hands, cuticles, lips, and dry spots as needed.
Can I use these products around my eyes?
Yes! Both products are gentle enough for the eye area. Use a very small amount (smaller than a pea-sized amount) and pat gently rather than rubbing. The balm works especially well as an eye cream replacement.
Do I need to cleanse my face before applying?
For best results, yes. Apply to clean skin (either freshly cleansed or rinsed with water). Applying to damp skin helps lock in moisture.
Can I layer these with other products?
Yes. Apply water-based products first (serums, essences, toners, etc.), wait 1-2 minutes, then apply your tallow product as your moisturizer/occlusive layer. In the morning, wait for the tallow product to absorb before applying SPF.
How do I warm up the balm?
Scoop up a small amount with the small paddle that comes with the balm (or clean fingers) and rub between your fingertips or on the palm of your hands for a few seconds. Your body heat will soften it immediately, making it easy to apply. It melts at body temperature.
What if the balm is too hard?
Tallow is solid at cool temperatures. If your balm seems very firm, it’s just cold -it will soften instantly when warmed between your fingers/hands. You can also leave the jar in a warm (not hot) place for a few minutes before use.
Should I apply to damp or dry skin?
Both products work fine on completely dry skin, but it’s ideal to apply them on damp skin (not soaking wet, just slightly damp after patting with a towel). This helps lock in moisture.
SKIN TYPES & CONCERNS
Will tallow work for my skin type?
Tallow works well for most skin types because of its biocompatibility:
DRY SKIN: Excellent – provides lasting hydration
OILY SKIN: Often helpful – biocompatible fats can help balance oil production (start with the Lotion)
COMBINATION SKIN: Works well – use Lotion all over, Balm on dry areas
SENSITIVE SKIN: Generally gentle – simple ingredients mean fewer irritants (Lotion has fewer ingredients if you’re concerned)
MATURE SKIN: Excellent – the grass fed beef tallow that we use in the balm and lotion is rich in naturally occurring vitamins A, D, E, and K.
ACNE-PRONE: Case-by-case, but often helpful due to biocompatibility (start with small amounts)
Will tallow clog my pores?
Despite being a rich fat, tallow is typically non-comedogenic because its fatty acid profile is so similar to sebum. Your skin recognizes it and absorbs it rather than having it sit on top and clog pores. That said, everyone’s skin is unique – start with a small amount and see how your skin responds.
Will this make my oily skin even more oily?
Surprisingly, not for most people. When you strip oily skin with harsh products, it often overcompensates by producing MORE oil. Providing biocompatible fats helps your skin find balance. Many people with oily skin find their skin produces less oil over time when using tallow. Start with the Lotion (lighter texture) and use a small amount.
I have very sensitive skin—will this irritate me?
Most people with sensitive skin tolerate tallow well because it’s biocompatible and the formulas are simple. However:
– If you know you’re sensitive to specific essential oils, start with the Lotion (no essential oils)
– Patch test on your inner arm for 24-48 hours before applying to your face
– The simpler the ingredient list, the fewer potential irritants
Can this help with eczema/psoriasis/rosacea?
We cannot make claims about treating medical conditions – our products are cosmetics, not medicine. However, many people with various skin concerns find that biocompatible, gentle ingredients and specific essential oils, help their skin feel more comfortable and look better. If you have a diagnosed skin condition, consult your dermatologist before trying new products.
Can I use this if I have acne?
Many people with acne-prone skin use tallow successfully. Because it’s biocompatible and doesn’t disrupt your skin’s natural balance, it often helps rather than harms. However, everyone’s acne is different. Start with a small amount on a limited area and see how your skin responds after a week.
Will this help with wrinkles/aging?
Tallow contains naturally occurring vitamin A (the same vitamin in retinol products), along with vitamins D, E, and K. These nutrients support skin’s appearance. We can’t claim our products “treat” aging, but consistent moisturization and sun protection (separate SPF) are the foundation of maintaining skin’s appearance over time.
SAFETY & ALLERGIES
Are these products safe?
Yes. Both products have been Dermatologically Tested. Both products use food-grade, cosmetic-safe ingredients. Tallow has been used safely in skincare for thousands of years. We use high-quality, properly sourced ingredients and follow good manufacturing practices.
Can I use these products if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
The ingredients in our products are generally considered safe for topical use. However, we always recommend consulting with your healthcare provider about any skincare products during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as only they know your specific health situation.
Are these products safe for children?
Yes, the gentle formulas are appropriate for children’s skin. Many families use our products for everyone in the household. Always do a patch test first and consult your pediatrician if you have concerns.
Can vegans use these products?
No. Both products contain grass-fed beef tallow and the balm also contains emu oil, which are animal-derived ingredients. If you follow a plant-based lifestyle, these products are not suitable for you.
I'm allergic to dairy—can I use tallow?
Yes! Tallow comes from beef fat, not dairy. It contains no lactose or dairy proteins. Dairy allergies should not affect tallow use.
How do I patch test?
Apply a small amount of product to the inside of your forearm. Leave it on for 24-48 hours and watch for any reaction (redness, itching, irritation). If no reaction occurs, it’s likely safe to use on your face.
Could I be allergic to tallow?
True allergies to tallow are very rare. If a product includes botanical essential oils (like our Balm), those are more likely sources of sensitivity than the tallow itself. If you have very sensitive skin or known allergies, patch test before full use.
Do these products expire?
TALLOW BALM: 24+ months from opening (no water = very stable)
TALLOW LOTION: 18-24 months from opening (contains water, naturally preserved)
So long as they are stored properly and not exposed to excessive heat.
Check the product label for specific guidance. Signs of expiration include off smell (not the normal tallow scent), color change, or texture change. Store away from direct sunlight and heat.
What if I have a reaction?
Discontinue use immediately. If you experience a severe reaction, consult a healthcare provider.
How should I store these products?
Store at room temperature away from direct sunlight. No refrigeration needed. In very warm conditions (above 85°F), the balm may soften but will firm up again when cooled. The pump bottle keeps the lotion protected from contamination.

Why did you start YBR?
Youth Beauty Radiance was born from a personal crossroads. After being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, I was compelled and motivated to remove harsh chemicals from all aspects of my life, making ingredient purity non-negotiable.
